“Taste of Poland Day” in Parliament promoted Polish Culture and Cuisine

The resplendent event “Taste of Poland Day” captivated attendees on the 18th of July 2023, as it brought together people to revel in the richness of Polish culture and cuisine. Organised by the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Poland in collaboration with Daniel Kawczynski MP and Nia Griffith MP, the event served as a beacon of cultural exchange and an opportunity to foster understanding of the Polish culture.

The festivities commenced with an air of excitement and anticipation. The venue, Jubilee Room in the House of Commons, emanated a welcoming ambiance, setting the stage for a memorable day of cultural exploration. The event commenced with thought-provoking speeches from Daniel Kawczynski MP and Nia Griffith MP, who eloquently emphasised the significance of cultural appreciation and cooperation between the United Kingdom and Poland. Their words underscored the strong bilateral ties and the value of cherishing each other’s heritage, uniting different political parties and ideologies. A captivating highlight of the “Taste of Poland Day” was the enchanting performance by the talented students of the Polish Music School in London.

Central to the event’s allure was the opportunity for participants to acquaint themselves with the diverse facets of Polish culture and cuisine. An array of stalls beckoned attendees to embark on a culinary journey through Poland, with each dish meticulously prepared and served by passionate vendors who take pride in preserving traditional recipes. From the beloved pierogi, bursting with flavourful meat, cheese and cabbage fillings, to the aromatic and comforting Mamuska’s restaurant summer bigos, each delicacy was a homage to the soul-nourishing flavours that define Polish gastronomy. Through the tantalising offerings, attendees were invited to indulge in a gastronomic adventure, transcending mere consumption and evolving into an appreciation of the history and customs inherent in each dish. Some would even treat the event as their breakfast, and would come back again after a few hours for their lunch! The spirit of Polish cuisine was on full display, showcasing the creativity, warmth, and love that forms the heart of Polish hospitality. Beyond the delightful culinary journey, “Taste of Poland Day” became an avenue for forging new connections.

The success of “Taste of Poland Day” stands as a testament to the power of cultural events in promoting cross-cultural understanding and friendship. A special thanks goes to the Polish restaurants and companies that brought the food: Polish Specialities, Polish Traditional Foods Podlaska Chata, Mleczko Delikatesy, Top Spirits, FT Spot, Polish Village Bread and Restauracja Mamuśka. As the event drew to a close, hundreds of MPs, Lords and employees of Parliament left with hearts full of gratitude and cherished memories. “Taste of Poland Day” not only introduced people to the wonders of Polish culture and cuisine but also nurtured a lasting appreciation for the deep-rooted values that binds the British-Polish communities together.
